Entertainment on the move
The brief
Driven by growing demand to bridge the gap between broadcast and the internet, Pace developed the technology behind the world's first mobile PVR for pay TV. Understanding the importance of the aesthetic appeal of such a device, they got in touch with us to design and develop it.
What we did
Firstly, we conducted extensive research to highlight what people would want from a mobile PVR. From this, we developed a set of user scenarios illustrating how people would use it – sharing with friends, on the commute, in-car, on holiday and etc. Concepts were then developed in 2D and assessed by groups our target audience. These findings were then used to focus on three preferred designs. We presented these concepts to the team at Pace and a single direction was chosen for final development. Working closely with Pace to ensure the concept was commercially and technically viable, we began 3D CAD and model making. We manufactured two visual models, one non-functioning and one with a working screen for evaluation. In addition, we also developed a series of accessories, including carry case, headphones, remote control, charging units and a desktop stand.
Result
PVR2GO makes it possible to access digital TV content, wherever and whenever you choose. As a result, Pace is investigating the possibility of funding development through to commercial launch; and future opportunities for live content, embedded DVD/DAB, gaming, PDA/phone capabilities, and keyboard and email/web access.
Client's Comments
"We're really pleased about how the project has progressed particularly with the tight timescale thrown at PDD. We're very happy with the outcome."
