A big difference for little fingers
The brief
Acme is the leading supplier of scissors to the US commercial office products industry. We know this because we worked with them before to create a pair of scissors for both left and right-handed users. Acme were so pleased with the results they came back to us with a new challenge: can we do something just as innovative, but for kids?
What we did
Our Human Factors team set to work exploring how children use scissors in real life activities, at home and school, and across varying ages and skill levels. What we found is that by introducing new sizes, modified grips and fun colour schemes, we had a product. For added comfort, we used ergonomically proportioned soft material and gave the blade tips a slightly blunt end so kids were less likely to hurt themselves.
Result
The Titanium range, which includes our kids’ range, has seen a recent revival in sales with turnover more than doubling.
Client's Comments
"The designs lift the scissors out of the commodity realm and offer the opportunity to step-up the buyer to a higher-end product. The value is readily understandable to the consumer... we found PDD great to work with, in spite of being on different continents."
